General Musician Information and Rehearsal Schedule

This page is for the benefit of the musicians in the orchestra ONLY.

GENERAL MUSICIAN INFORMATION

WHERE? WHEN? The date, time, and location of every rehearsal and concert is noted below.

HOW DO I GET THERE? (a) St. Thomas Aquinas, 4th Avenue and 9th Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn, is right across the street from the 4th Avenue station on the F train. On the lower level (below street level) in that same subway station are the M and R trains, which you can catch at the Atlantic Avenue/Pacific Street station, a major transfer point in Brooklyn that also serves the N,Q,W,2,3,4, and 5 trains. (This 4th Avenue station is called “9th Street” when you’re on the M and R trains.) Click here for a Mapquest map, and here for the MTA subway map.
      (b) The Clay Tennis Courts in Riverside Park are at 97th Street and the Hudson River in northwest Manhattan. Click here to download a map. The concert site is just north of the tennis courts themselves, which are clearly indicated on the map. PLEASE allow yourself PLENTY of time to get there, especially if you’ve never been there before. It takes longer than you think!

BRING A MUSIC STAND? You usually don’t need to. We’ll explicitly let you know if you do need to bring a stand. Remember, however, in case you’re not sure, that it’s always safer to bring one unless you’re totally positive you don’t need to.

BRING ANYTHING ELSE? All string players, you need a mute. ALWAYS have a mute with you. It’s part of the equipment that goes with your instrument, like your bow and your rosin.
CelloBasses, bring a Rockstop or “strap” or whatever kind of endpin rest you use.

WHAT DO I WEAR? Normal (indoors) concert dress is tuxedo (or dark suit with black bow tie) for the men, and all-black for the ladies. Park concert dress is business casual (please, not beach-bum casual).

PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE OF THE CHURCHES that we rehearse and play in. We are their guests. Clean up after yourself, don’t make a mess in the first place, etc. Commonsense stuff.
