Biography of Musica Bella Orchestra member Claire Smith

Claire Smith, violin, was born in Victoria, Texas. She has a B.A. from Southwestern University, Texas, and an M.M. from the Boston Conservatory of Music. She has studied the violin with David Kim, Lynn Chang, Magdalena Richter, Ronan Lefkowitz, Roy Lewis, and Joey Corpus. She has had chamber master classes with Bernard Greenhouse, the Manhattan String Quartet, and the Lydian String Quartet. She has given solo and chamber music performances in Boston and New York. Her chamber music performances include Boston trio on the concert series at Harvard university, and at the Gore Place Museum. Her orchestral performances include the Connecticut Grand Opera, the One World Symphony, the Musica Bella Orchestra, the Boston Philharmonic, the Boston Metropolitan Orchestra, the Fidelio Chamber Orchestra, the MIT Summer Philharmonic Orchestra, and Opera Aperta. She has also had musical theater work, including Broadway, and recordings of new music and film scores. She is on the faculty at the Third Street Music School Settlement, Opus 118, the Harlem Center for Strings, and The Spence School.
      She was a soloist in the Bach Double Violin Concerto on Musica Bella’s December 17 and 18, 2005 All-Bach Concerts.
