Biography of Musica Bella Orchestra guest Barry Garrett

Clarinetist Barry Garrett graduated from Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music in 2006 with degrees in Political Science and Clarinet Performance. While at Oberlin, he performed with the Oberlin Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Contemporary Music Ensemble. An avid chamber musician, he has given performances in the greater Midwest region with various ensembles and competed in the prestigious Fischoff Chamber Music Competition in 2004 with the BEK Trio.
      Barry has traveled extensively, giving solo recitals in Ohio, Texas, and Oregon and touring with various ensembles to New Zealand, Australia, Italy, Germany, and France. He has been a clarinetist in several professional orchestras including the Midland Symphony (Texas), Lubbock Symphony (Texas), and Bel Canto Northwest Opera Orchestra (Oregon).
      Barry's teachers include Anthony McGill, Richard Hawkins, and David Shea. He is currently working as a legal assistant at a hedge fund in New York City and is looking forward to attending law school or continuing his music studies in the near future. In July 2006, Barry married Kate Petro, herself a gifted flutist.
